ARTS AND INNOVATION DISTRICT - CITY OF MYRTLE BEACH
About the “Arts and Innovation District” in Myrtle Beach, SC - In 2020, The City of Myrtle Beach began the revitalization of the Downtown “Superblock” area now known as the “Arts and Innovation District” in efforts to revive this portion of the city into a setting that would bring locals and enhance tourism to this sector of the City. DDC Engineers is providing the surveying and civil engineering services in order to assist the city with the on-going enhancement of the Arts and Innovation District to take shape. (32± acres)
PHASE 1A OF THE PROJECT STREETSCAPE ENHANCEMENTS (1.7 acres)
The overhead utility wires have been converted to an underground conduit system in the superblock parking lot between Kings Highway and North Oak Street and from 8th Avenue North (on the south end) to 9th Avenue North (on the north end).
In keeping with the updated schematic utility design completed by DDC, the project utilities (water, sewer and drainage) were relocated in the back parking lot area and finally the areas roughly defined as the area between Kings Highway and North Oak Street and from 8th Avenue North (on the south end) to 9th Avenue North (on the north end) consisted of installing a pervious paver system complete with underground components, curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveway tie-ins.
PALM LAKES PLANTATION, a Residential Community
Led by Realstar Homes, Palm Lakes Plantation is a Planned Development District (PDD) large scale multi-phased residential community located adjacent to S.C. Highway 57, near the intersection of S.C. Highway 57 and Mt. Zion Road, in Horry County, SC. The project is comprised of single-family homes, multi-family residential units and various amenity facilities. DDC Engineer’s professional services include civil engineering and landscape design along with on-going construction services until the project is completed.

CHARLIE’S PLACE - CITY OF MYRTLE BEACH
Charlie’s Place known as the Fritzgerald’s House by many is located along Carver Street in the City of Myrtle Beach and was a blues and swinging nightclub with a motel back in the 1930’s to the early 1960’s where many of the earlier African American music legends, Dizzy Gillespie, Little Richard, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Lena Horne, Count Basie, Muddy Water, Ray Charles and others performed. Today, it sat vacant and run-down, until the City of Myrtle Beach decided to purchase the land and with funding assistance, take the steps to preserve the memory and history by the reconstruction and remodeling of the legendary Fritzgerald House. The hotel was demolished and rebuilt with a portion of it becoming a museum honoring the greatest and best significance of this property.
DDC Engineers was asked to provide the civil engineering services in order to provide the site design, roadway, parking and drainage plans to support the construction of the project. DDC recognizing the importance of this project, donated their services at no cost to give back to the community.

48-INCH WATER LINE - GRAND STRAND WATER & SEWER AUTHORITY
This project is located in the southwestern portion of Horry County. The existing 36” steel water line is being replaced by a 48” water line which serves water to Grand Strand customers from the Bull Creek Water Treatment Plant. This 48” steel water line is the main water feed from the Bull Creek Surface Water Treatment Plant to the northern part of Horry County on the other side of the Waccamaw River from the River to Little River along with most all of the northern portion of unincorporated Horry County.

This project is part of HGTC’s plan to enhance their Market Common campus.

YAUPON DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS PH. 1 - CITY OF MYRTLE BEACH
This project is a section of the Yaupon Watershed Drainage Basin between 16th Avenue South and 15th Avenue South in the City of Myrtle Beach. Drainage issues have occurred in this area during low intensity storm events. DDC was contracted to provide the civil engineering services and assist the City during the construction of the improvements in order to improve this storm system to be able to provide a level of service that will handle a 25-year design storm event. Project was completed in July of 2020.

The Retreat at Coastal Grand is a planned age restricted multi-family development with 194-units and future retail buildings. This project is located on Sea Pine Boulevard and Grissom Parkway in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Quite a year for DDC’s Construction Services division and DDC as a whole. They obtained the Permits to Operate for thirty-five (35) water and/or sewer systems on projects along the Grand Strand area by producing record drawings as well as processing the necessary certifications as required by the regulatory agencies. SOUTH WASTEWATER TRANSMISSION SYSTEM UPGRADE
21,000’± of 36” PVC sewage force main and a 12 MGD VFD inline sewage booster pump station was installed near the intersection of Highway 17 Bypass and Sutter Drive in the southern part of Horry County in order to increase the flows.

THE PIER at Coastal Carolina University is complete
DDC teamed with CHA Consultants in order to design and construct, The Pier at CCU, a student housing complex, with on-site amenities located on 11.8 acres at the intersection of SC Highway 544 and Edwards Lane in The City of Conway, SC. The project consists of three (3) buildings with 184 units (500+ beds). Project was completed in July of 2020.

This project is located within the public right-of-way along 5th Avenue South, from Boundary Street to Mitchell Drive in the City of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Phase 2 of SAVANNAH's PLAYGROUND located in the Market Common area of Myrtle Beach is open to the public and includes several all-inclusive play structures, offering additional opportunities for kids of all ages and abilities to enjoy themselves.

DDC is proud to announce that the "4TH AVENUE NORTH OCEAN OUTFALL" PROJECT in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina received US EPA's Performance and Innovation in the SRF Creating Environmental Success (PISCES) recognition in 2017.
DDC Engineers is happy to announce that LULU's, a new waterfront restaurant located in the “new section” of Barefoot Landing called "Dockside Village" just opened for business. The restaurant includes an outdoor seating area with a bar, a store and an arcade. DDC provided the surveying, civil engineering, landscape design and construction services.

COMMUNITY CARE RESIDENTIAL FACILITY, is a new Adult Care Facility with 60 beds. The facility is part of a planned ±47.0 acre professional park located on SC Highway 151 in Hartsville, SC. The project design included infrastructure to serve the subdivided parcel and the future professional park including water, gravity sewer and pump station, main roadway, highway 151 access improvements, and site design for the adult care.

CAROLINA PINES RV RESORT, is a new luxury RV resort located on S.C. 90 near the intersection of S.C. 22 in Horry County, South Carolina. The resort offers over 700 RV sites and cabins, a welcome center, rental building, and miscellaneous associated features.
The resort held its grand opening on October 22, 2019.
MYRTLE BEACH PLYLER PARK GETS IMPROVEMENTS
Improvements to the existing park project consists of hardscape demolition, landscape removal, and site improvements to the existing oceanfront park. New improvements include the installation of the “Goddess of the Sea “ bronze sculpture, a concrete stage, several pergolas, concrete paving, landscaping, site furnishings, and associated electrical and irrigation components. |

DDC SURVEY STAFF PERFORMS PAPI SURVEYS FOR THE MYRTLE BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
As a sub consultant to Delta Airports, DDC’s survey staff provided PAPI surveys (Precision Approach Path Indicators) for the Taxiways A and B Rehabilitation - Pavement and Lighting at the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

DDC CONTINUES TO DESIGN AND PERMIT VARIOUS PUMP STATIONS FOR THE CITY OF MYRTLE BEACH
Completed in 2017, this pump station is located 275 linear feet off US Highway 17 Business (Kings Highway) 300 linear feet south of the Grande Dunes Boulevard in the City of Myrtle Beach, SC. The project consists of replacing the existing 39 +/- year old duplex T-6 Gorman Rupp self-priming above ground pump station and wetwell that was constructed in 1977 with a Triplex Flygt submersible pump station in a new 10’x 20’ wetwell along with some new 48” horizontal storage between two (2) collection manholes. An emergency pump connection has been added for power outages in the area along with a Godwin diesel drive pump for emergencies to handle the sewage flows during power outages instead of an emergency generator for the station.

LIVELY AT CAROLINA FOREST is a new apartment complex located within the Carolina Forest Development. The project is comprised of garage buildings with overhead apartments, a pool facility, a community building and associated amenities. Upon project initiation, the property required rezoning from Highway Commercial (HC) to Resort Commercial (RC). DDC provided the rezoning, civil and landscape design services.
